The NFL coaching carousel spins again! Joe DeCamillis, a veteran special teams strategist, is back in the big league, this time with the Las Vegas Raiders.
DeCamillis, aged 60, is no stranger to the NFL, having been a part of the league since 1991 when he started as an assistant to his father-in-law, the legendary Dan Reeves. But his recent journey has been a rollercoaster. After a two-season stint with the Rams, DeCamillis was let go in the 2023 offseason, only to find a new home at the University of Texas and then South Carolina. And now, he's heading to Sin City!
His resume is impressive, boasting experience as a special teams coordinator for a whopping six NFL teams: the Broncos, Bears, Cowboys, Giants, Falcons, and Jaguars. And let's not forget, he was even nominated for the prestigious Broyles Award last season. But here's where it gets controversial: despite his extensive experience, DeCamillis has never held a position coach role.
The Raiders are clearly seeking a seasoned leader for their special teams unit, and DeCamillis fits the bill. With his wealth of knowledge and connections, he could be the missing piece to elevate the Raiders' game.
