Manitoba's hepatitis A outbreak has reached a critical point, with health officials warning of a worsening situation. This outbreak, declared in April 2025, initially affected remote northern communities but has now spread to Winnipeg and other areas, causing a surge in cases. As of April 26, 601 cases have been reported, with 131 in Winnipeg, leading to 133 hospitalizations, five ICU admissions, and tragically, three deaths. The symptoms of hepatitis A, an acute liver infection, can be severe, especially for those with weakened immune systems, chronic liver disease, or over the age of 60.
