Francisco Alvarez News: Drops weight, vows to keep new approach
Alvarez revealed on Friday that he shed between eight and ten pounds this offseason after adjusting his diet, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday.
He also shared that he worked with Jeff Albert, the team’s director of hitting, over the winter and intends to maintain the batting stance he adopted during the final stretch of last season. The 24-year-old catcher faced a brief demotion to Triple-A Syracuse due to early-season struggles, but when he returned he reverted to his previous stance and posted a sturdy line over his final 40 games: .276/.360/.561 with eight homers. At 24, Alvarez remains a strong candidate to make a notable jump in 2026. He reported to spring training at full health after recovering from right-thumb UCL surgery after the season.
